Levenmouth Rail Link

MHB initially assisted Story Contracting with the completion of Phase 1 Desk Study and Phase 2 Intrusive Site investigations at Bawbee Bridge to support discussions with the Local Authority in relation to the discharge of ground related planning consent conditions for a temporary bridge crossing. The MHB assessment encompassed both geo-environmental and geotechnical site conditions along with temporary works support for the new bridge crossing.

MHB was then appointed by Scotland’s Railway to develop a Material Management Plan (MMP) to assist Story with the ongoing design works for the Levenmouth Re-connected Scheme between Thornton Junction and Leven in Fife. These works included excavating 7 miles of track bed to a depth of 0.5m with an estimated 80,000 tons of material to be reused elsewhere on the project.

MHB assisted with the planning of these operations to assist in minimising waste and to demonstrate the appropriate planning of materials movement to ensure compliance with waste legislation. Various waste and land contamination assessments were undertaken as part of the ongoing support. Others works included a Biodiversity Net Gain (BGN) and landscaping design at Double Dykes.
